Over the last three months the Coastal Catchments Unit at the Department of Environment and Climate Change has been gathering data on existing vegetation communities, plant and animal species on the Kurnell Peninsula. These surveys have been undertaken to locate the areas of high conservation value. The areas and the species recorded will determine ideal locations for biodiversity corridors which link other areas of high conservation value. Maps suggesting the most favourable paths of the corridors will be completed by May. This study will identify priority areas for weed and pest control, and will provide baseline information for future surveys. On completion, the maps will be made available to all stakeholders for comment, and areas within the corridors requiring weed and pest control will be identified and prioritised.
