Marrickville Community Nursery has been engaged to co-ordinate the propagation of 20,000 native plants for the Cooks River Urban Water Initiative.
In the last few weeks there has been several discussions about the importance of using local native stock for all restoration work completed by the Initiative.

By using plants specifically grown from seeds or plant material that has been sourced within the Cooks River catchment, we will be ensuring that the unique biodiversity of the Cooks River is retained. By starting propagation now, plants should be available when works are being completed and re-vegetation is required later this year. For more details on the importance of local native stock check out the florabank website.

Also in the last week, staff from Rockdale City Council and the CMA have met to review concept plans for a gross pollutant trap and bio-retention basin near Hannam Street in Turrella. This project is likely to be the first completed under the Initiative and all involved are keen to ensure it will provide good water quality treatment for water flowing into Bardwell and Wolli Creeks.
More details of this project to come soon!
