In the last fortnight the stormwater element has been progressing with speed. Rockdale City Council have ordered the gross pollutant trap for the Hannam Street site at Turrella. It is expected that this trap will be installed this month!

Gross pollutant traps (or GPTs) trap larger objects washed down the road gutter such a bottles, plastics, organic matter and some coarse sediment. However, the GPT is only part of the water treatment works to be installed at this site.

A bioretention basin design is also being finalised by stormwater engineers at Rockdale City Council. This system will capture dissolved pollutants and fine sediment that otherwise would have entered into Bardwell Creek. It is expected that the basin will be installed in the nearby reserve by mid year.

On the other side of the Wolli Creek catchment, Canterbury City Council and National Parks & Wildlife Service staff last week toured a series of sites that have been earmarked for works under the Initiative. Representatives from the CMA and the Wolli Creek Preservation Society were also present. There should be more news on what sites will targeted for works first within the next few weeks.
