The project was funded under the Sydney Metropolitan Catchment Management Authority?s Icon Program as part of the Cooks River Initiative.

The Revegetation Project built on the Strathfield Municipal Council?s Cooks River Foreshore Restoration Project, which aimed to rehabilitate an important green corridor within Freshwater Park , Strathfield. Strathfield Council's project involved stabilising riverbanks and riverbeds using ecologically sensitive techniques (e.g. natural rock and vegetation) restoring the river and creating valuable habitats.

This project further enhanced the area through weed removal and replanting local native plants to further stabilise soils, filter nutrients and sediment, and to provide important habitat for aquatic and terrestrial fauna.

This project won the Keep Australia Beautiful Sustainable Cities Awards 2007 ? Winner Biodiversity Conservation Award.
